This series will be governed by the rules here.
The Sailing Instructions during a race may also change other racing rules.
A skippers meeting will take place prior to any race, unless informed otherwise.
This whole thing is a for fun and a way to increase participation. If you quote one of the rules in here as part of a petition you will automatically lose your argument.
Changes may be made orally by the Race Committee prior to any race, while on the water.
Points will be awarded to boats based on their finishing position in the race. The formula for calculating points will be as follows: a boat will receive twice the value in points as the number of boats it beats. For example, if there are 5 boats racing and a boat finishes first, it will receive 8 points (4 boats beaten, multiplied by 2).
Participation Point: Every boat that enters the race (touches the water) will be awarded 1 point. This encourages participation and recognizes the effort of all boats taking part in the series.
New Participant Point: Each new person participating in a series for the first time will earn 1 extra point for their boat. This applies regardless of the boat's finishing position. For example, if a boat has 3 people on board and 1 of them is new to the series, the boat will receive 1 additional point.
Individual Scores: Each person on board a boat will have an individual score that is not tied to a specific boat. Every person aboard a boat will receive the same score/points at the completion of a race.
Picture Bonus: A boat will receive 1 point for sharing 5 or more decent pictures of OTHER boats. These pictures must be unique and not repeated multiple times. Selfies will not count for this bonus.
Completion Bonus: Completion Bonus: Every boat that successfully completes the course, regardless of its finishing position, will be awarded 1 point.
The scheduled dates for the monthly series of Small Boat & Handicap racing will appear on the main page(here). All race starting times are scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm. This schedule will remain in effect unless otherwise notified.
Will be held south of the marina clubhouse and Port of Call, on the Great South Bay.
All skippers are required to hail their boat identification with the Race Committee boat prior to their first race. A boat retiring from a race shall notify the Race Committee before leaving the course, or if possible to a Race Committee member upon the retiring boats return to the marina.
The courses will be set on the day of the race, usually consisting of using the buoys in the great south bay. Number 32, Number 34, and possibly Number 30 are likely to be used to we encourage being familiar with their location.
The starting line shall be located between the end of the dock and the end of the jetty to the east side of the marina.
The Race Committee will attempt to hail the recall numbers of the boat(s) that are OCS (On Course Side). Boats are not eligible for redress as follows; failure to hear a recall and the order of recall numbers, or the timeliness or promptness of the hail.
The finish will be somewhere in the general vicinity of the dock area (usually between the dock area and the end of the jetty) After finishing and clearing the finish line, boats are requested not to re-cross the finish line but to round either the Race Committee boat or the “X” mark.
There are no timelimits. If you sail the course, you will get credit for completion.
A boat that is intending to protest about an incident within the racing area shall notify the Race Committee as soon as the protesting boat finishes the race in which the foul or penalty occurred. They shall hail their intentions, including the sail number of the boat(s) being protested. Protest forms are available from the Race Committee. The protest time limit is 30 minutes after the Race Committee boat has returned to the marina dock, for a written protest to be filed. Protest will be heard as soon as practicable between all parties.
When a boat has broken the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS); PART 2 “When Boats Meet” in or near the racing area, the penalized boat shall take a “one turn” penalty that includes getting clear of other boats as soon as possible and promptly making your 360-degree penalty turn which consists of one tack and one jibe in the same direction. However, if while taking the penalty, the penalized boat causes injury or serious damage or gained a significant advantage, an additional penalty will be assessed; retirement from the race in which the penalty took place.
A condition of entry and participation is that all sailors must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times.
The winner will get, at the very least, an awesome high-five from DJ.
Competitors participate in the series of races entirely at their own risk. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after any series of races.
